As a psychotherapist, I have experience working with a wide range of emotional health issues including:
anxiety
stress
self-esteem
depression
relationship issues
sexual/physical abuse
gay/bi/lesbian/trans/issues
childhood/family issues
While I would describe my therapeutic approach as eclectic, I am working
primarily from a client-centered model. I am also interested in and
incorporating elements of Buddhist/mindfulness-based psychotherapy. Above all,
I emphasize the importance of a strong and compassionate therapeutic
relationship. My approach to therapy often involves a balance between
helping a client explore past experiences and identifying how these experiences
may be affecting them in the present.
Groups of people I have particular experience with include members of Toronto's
LGBT communities, persons facing illness, young adults/university students and
adults of all ages.Anti-oppression is an essential component of my
approach - for me this means recognizing not only that discrimination exists
but that who we uniquely are in the world affects how we experience our lives.
